To coincide with the 50th anniversary of the parent company in Germany, Flexi North America has opened its new headquarters in Charlotte in the state of North Carolina. Company founder Manfred Bogdahn invented the Flexi retractable leash in 1973. This is now sold in more than 90 countries around the world. In 2019, Bogdahn received the pet Personality of the Year Award at the Pet Conference in Hamburg.
