The European Commission’s Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food & Feed (SCOPAFF) postpones its decision to impose maximum CDB levels for hemp products in pet food.
Industry groups, among which the European pet food association FEDIAF, asked SCOPAFF to hold off on the Committee’s decision to revise the hemp entries in the EU Catalogue of Feed Materials.
It will now first further research the potential health risks associated with CBD. Toxicology reports are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The industry groups are concerned that rules under consideration would burden operators with additional red tape and make it more difficult to market hemp-related products.
The EU feed catalogue is non-binding for its European member states, many countries do use it at the national level as a reference for local rules.
